Eastwood Falcons 70s Blues got off to a good start to the season with two draws and a win on the opening day of fixtures. Our first game agains Parringdon Pirates was a close fought match which ended in a 1-1 draw, Mark Hughes equalising soon after Parriingdon went into the lead with a well struck shot following a defensive mix up by Eastwood. The second match was a goalless draw with Leyton Orient which could easily have gone either way. Some very strange refereeing left a few of us mystified but that seems to be the norm’ for this season and something we are rapidly getting used to. The 0-0 was probably a fair result.

Our third game against Little Oakley was a match which in previous seasons we may have expected to struggle in. Oakley are a good side with a number of County, South East England and England players and are never easy to beat. Eastwood took an early lead with a well worked goal involving Mark and Rob Evison culminating in a well taken goal by Pino Schisano. Early in the second half the same trio provided a good goal scoring opportunity for Rob Evison which he duly despatch with a left foot shot into the far corner. Little Oakley unsurprisingly pressed hard to get back into the game and scored with about 3 minutes remaining. But shortly afterwards Mark Hughes dribbled past three defenders and slipped the ball to Pino to score his second well taken goal of the match and record a very good victory. The 5 points puts us into second place in the table.

Overall Eastwood were strong throughout with every player playing their parts to both defend and help the attacks and John Watson made some excellent saves at crucial moments. (Report: MH)
